Kenny Chesney Sings ‘Beer in Mexico,’ ‘You and Tequila’ and ‘Somewhere With You’ on the ‘Today’ Show

There were plenty of cowboy hats in New York City this morning when Kenny Chesney performed a trio of songs on the ‘Today’ show. It was a muggy morning, but that didn’t affect Chesney’s rendition of ‘Beer in Mexico’ or ‘You and Tequila.’ Alcoholic beverages certainly played a part in this morning’s concert, but only in the lyrics.

Chesney is known for packing venues when he is on tour, and it was easy to see why fans turn out in droves to catch a glimpse of Chesney on stage thanks to this morning’s performance, where he brought a whole lot of country flavor to the concrete jungle of Manhattan.

After soaring through the upbeat, bro’ish ‘Beer in Mexico,’ the low-key Chesney chatted about the concert he held in Alabama, which he had planned to cancel due to the tornadoes that swept through the region. He instead performed at the mayor’s urging, and in turn donated the proceeds to the city of Tuscaloosa. Chesney likened his actions to the fact that he is a big believer in music as a healer. “Those people were hurting and are hurting still, and that was the best way I could help,” he said.

Chesney next performed ‘You and Tequila,’ his duet with Grace Potter. Potter was right there by his side, as they both strummed guitars on this pretty, mournful song. It was a beautiful rendition, that’s for sure, and Chesney and Potter’s voices intermingle perfectly, especially in the live setting.

Chesney closed his set with ‘Somewhere With You’ and he was makin’ love to the crowd, pointing at the girls in the front row and singing to them. Dreamy. He was also seen signing autographs for fans before he went onstage. That Kenny Chesney, he’s a true professional — even at 8 o’clock in the morning.
