Lokpal Bill: the points of differences

New Delhi: Differences remain on certain issues in the Lokpal Bill between Team Anna, the government and the Opposition. The inclusion of the Prime Minister, Group C and D bureaucrats and the CBI are the major points of divergence.

Inclusion of the Prime Minister
The Standing Committee draft has left the decision of the inclusion of the Prime Minister for Parliament to decide. Team Anna wants the Prime Minister to be included in the Lokpal Bill. The government initially kept the Prime Minister out, but is now considering the inclusion with riders.

Inclusion of Group C and D bureaucrats
The Standing Committee has kept the State Government Group C and D employees under their respective state Lokayuktas. Team Anna, however, wants Group C and D employees to come under the Lokpal Bill. The government is against the inclusion of Group C and D employees in the Lokpal Bill.

Inclusion of the CBI
The Standing Committee has kept the control of the CBI outside the Lokpal Bill. Team Anna says the CBi must be included in the Lokpal Bill. The government is against the inclusion of the CBI under the Lokpal Bill.
Not convinced with the Standing Committee's Lokpal draft, Anna Hazare holds a token fast, inviting all political parties for an open debate on the Lokpal Bill at Jantar Mantar on Sunday..
