New Delhi: Amidst the debate over the inclusion of lower bureaucracy, Group C and D employees, and the Prime Minister under the Lokpal Bill, Parliament Standing Committee Chairman Abhishek Manu Singhvi has said that Parliament can add more to the draft once it's tabled.
"Government is entitled to go beyond the Standing Committee report, and Parliament may add more to the report," Singhvi told IBN18 Editor-in-Chief Rajdeep Sardesai.
He said that despite 16 dissent notices submitted with the final draft, which was adopted on Wednesday, what will be seen in the tabled report on Friday will be an overwhelming majority of the sense of the House.
When asked about objections being raised by Team Anna over the Lokpal Bill draft, Singhvi said, "We are not here to reach out to or please Team Anna or anybody else."
He claimed that the draft is a strong one and should be given a time of 1 to 2 years to have a view on its efficacy. "This is nowhere a government draft. This has a unique sense of creativity with elements taken from various sources. This has a strong anti-corruption punch in it," Singhvi said.
"Team Anna must wait and see the efficacy, give it a chance of 1 to 2 years and then decide," he added.
