Will go to jail if we don't get a place to protest: Anna Hazare

New Delhi: Anti-corruption activist Anna Hazare continued his attack on the government over the Lokpal Bill, calling the government's way of drafting the bill as the 'British rule'. "The way the government has drafted the bill reminds me of the British rule," Hazare said in Ralegaon Siddhi on Friday.
Hazare also threatened to go to jail if he and his supporters do not get a place for agitation. So far, the part of Azad Maidan that Team Anna can use can only accommodate 3000 to 4000 people, while the 30000 sq metre MMRDA grounds could accommodate a crowd of up to 1 lakh. He has been denied permission to use the sports ground adjoining the Azad Maidan.
However, a writ petition has been filed by India Against Corruption(IAC) against MMRDA and the Maharashtra government for not giving MMRDA protest site for the agitation beginning on December 27.
Anna remains firm and has said he will go to jail if space is a problem. He also said that talks for the MMRDA ground, which is a bigger venue, and Azad Maidan was on. "Things will get clear later on Friday," he said.
"Even in Delhi, they put me in jail first and then gave us a place. The same will happen here, we will at least get a place in jail," Hazare added.
Reacting to CPI leader Gurudas Dasgupta's comments, Hazare said, "There is only one father of the nation. There can never be two." Slamming Hazare, Dasgupta had said on Thursday in Parliament that there is only one father of the nation - Mahatma Gandhi.
He also said that he doesn't care about his agitation working in favour of Congress rivals. "I don't care if our agitation favours the Congress' rivals. The bottomline is that the corrupt should go to jail," Anna said.
