Sana's 4 wickets guides Pak to victory

Asiad Games 2010, Asiad game

Guangzhou: Off spinner Sana Gulzar grabbed four wickets for eight runs as favorites Pakistan wasted little time in defeating Thailand by eight wickets in the Asian Games women's cricket competition on Sunday.

Gulzar took two top-order wickets before finishing off the tailenders as Thailand was dismissed for 49 off 19.3 overs after it won the toss and elected to bat in the Pool A match.

Only Kosathong Siwaporn (10) reached double figures for Thailand, with extras (18) contributing the most runs to the total.

For Pakistan, Nida Rashid (21) and Javeria Wadood (19) shared a 42-run opening stand but both were dismissed within four runs before Pakistan achieved the 50-run target in just 8.3 overs.

"Batting is our strength and we have worked hard for this tournament," said Wadood, who is also vice captain of team.

In Pool B, Bangladesh will meet Hong Kong later Sunday at Guanggong Cricket Stadium.

China — which thrashed Malaysia by 59 runs on Saturday — faces Pakistan in the next Pool A match on Monday.

"I don't know some of the Chinese players' names, but they do have some good bowlers and it will be a tough match," said Pakistan's Asmavia Iqbal.
