Supreme Court pulls up Amar Singh over phone-tapping case

New Delhi: The Supreme Court today severely reprimanded former Samajwadi Party leader Amar Singh for wasting the court's time in the telephone-tapping case.

The court's observation came after Singh withdrew accusations against the Congress over intercepting his phone calls.

"Look at the way the court is treated. Is it appropriate for this court to spend hours together on your petition based on your fabricated evidence. Why should the court interfere for a person who himself is not clean?", the court thundered.

Abhishek Manu Singhvi, representing Singh in the court, said that his client was satisfied with Delhi Police's investigations into the case and hence wanted to withdraw the case.

Singhvi told the court that the police had found that the documents on which the tapping was done by Reliance Infocomm were forged.

Taking serious note of the developments, the court said, "Court is the victim of your affidavit because it initiated an action against your petition...This case has been engaging the court for the last four years..."
