BJP targets PM on price rise and corruption
New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) launched a scathing attack on Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Tuesday on the twin issues of corruption and price rise.
BJP spokesperson Ravi Shankar Prasad flayed Singh for backing Central Vigilance Commissioner PJ Thomas and also targeted him for not disclosing names of the people who have black money in foreign accounts.
"Prime Minister claims to be himself honest and a credible economist. But he leads a government that is most corrupt and unable to control inflation," said Prasad while addressing a press conference at the party's headquarters in New Delhi.
Taking on Singh and Congress President Sonia Gandhi on the issue of corruption, Prasad said there was a big question mark on the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance Government's intention to fight against corruption in view of its stand on the Central Vigilance Commissioner.
"I ask why is the Government reluctant to reveal the names of those who have money in foreign accounts. BJP demands the Government to be proactive if its intentions are correct. People expect the government to reveal the names of the account holders," Prasad said.
However, the Congress hit back at the BJP claiming that the Opposition party was not interested in talking about scams involving its own leaders.
"There are many contradictions in the utterances of the BJP. On one hand they say Congress has undermined institutions. But when we ask about land scam they say the matter is pending in the Supreme Court," said Congress spokesperson Manish Tewari.
