Shunglu report: Prasar Bharti caused loss of Rs. 135 crores
New Delhi: A day after the Shunglu committee submitted an interim report on alleged irregularities in awarding broadcasting rights during Commonwealth Games to the Prime Minister's Office (PMO), the report has been made public.
The report says Prasar Bharti manipulated the broadcast contracts to cause losses of Rs. 135 crore rupees, and there is a clear nexus between SIS LIVE, Zoom and Prasar Bharti. ( Read the full report)
The Committee has indicted Prasar Bharti executives B S Lalli and Aruna Sharma for the alleged financial irregularities, and recommends action against them.
It also says that Prasar Bharti did not ensure reasonable rates for contracts, and there were deliberate delays in following schedules.
The Director General of Doordarshan took most decisions and the bids were inflated, the report adds. Sources say the report could also spell trouble for former CWG Organising Committee boss Suresh Kalmadi.
The high-level committee was set up by the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on October 25 last year and asked to submit its report within three months.
