Alagiri, Maran meeting with Sonia inconclusive
New Delhi: A meeting between the UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi and DMK leaders MK Alagiri and Dayanidhi Maran over seat sharing in Tamil Nadu, on, was inconclusive, sources have said.
Sources also said that a miffed Sonia also made herself clear that the DMK had violated coalition dharma by threatening to pull out of the alliance and going public with their differences. Sources said that the Congress is not willing to compromise on its demand for 63 seats.
On Tuesday, Pranab Mukherjee had asked the six DMK union ministers to hold on to their resignations till Wednesday. DMK ministers reached Delhi on Monday to submit their resignations to the Prime Ministers.
The Congress and the DMK still trying to hammer out a compromise over seat sharing in Tamil Nadu.
The DMK had on on Saturday decided to pull out of UPA Government at the Centre, withdraw its ministers from the Cabinet and said that the party would provide only issue-based support to the Central Government.
The six DMK ministers: Dayanidhi Maran - Textiles, Alagiri - Chemicals and Fertilizers, S Palanimanickam - MoS Finance, D Napoleon - MoS Social Justice and Empowerment, S Jagath Rakshakan - MoS Information and Broadcasting, S Gandhiselvan - MoS Health had earlier decided to submit their resignation to the Prime Minister on Monday.
