Rumor: iPhone 5 Might have NFC Capabilities
Rumor mills were buzzing with the word that the Apple iPhone 5 won't have the Near-Field Communication functionality. British News Daily - The Independent reported about one such speculation stating the Apple plans to sod plans of including NFC capability iPhone 5 due to lack of standard across the industry. However, Forbes was informed by an entrepreneur working on "top-secret NFC project" that Apple will be adding NFC in iPhone 5. The report also cited a person working with Apple as a source of information.
Back in January, we reported that the next iPhone, iPad will have the NFC capabilities as confirmed by Richard Doherty, consulting firm director for Envisioneering Group. However, the iPad 2 wasn't launched with any NFC capabilities which lead to rumors about Apple considering to rule out the same for the next iPhone.
The entrepreneur who confirmed about the NFC possibility in iPhone 5 also added that several NFC reader manufacturers also expect Apple to put NFC chip in iPhone 5 and thereby raise the awareness as well as traffic to use it. So that basically confirms that the next iPhone will have an NFC chip to compete with the Google Nexus S and the upcoming touch-based BlackBerry handsets.
At this moment, only handful of services and projects that work with NFC capabilities have been announced. We can foresee that the next generation of smartphones will have NFC and Mobile-Augmented Reality as most bragged about features.
