After Herschelle Gibbs supposedly dropped the Cup during the Super Six encounter at Leeds, Headingley, veteran pace bowler Donald lost his head when the finishing line was there for the taking with one required off four deliveries during the last four stage.
The 2003 World Cup when South Africa were playing hosts ended in broken hearts for an entire nation as they failed to get pas t the super six stage thanks to a miscalculated target against the Sri Lankans in their final group match.
The Proteas were comprehensvely beaten by their nemesis, the wily Australians in the 2007 edition of the World Cup as they once again failed to get past the semi-final stage.
Graeme Smith's claim that his men have shed the choker's tag after their win over India in a nail-biting affair in the ongoing cricket extravaganza came back to haunt him as South Africa once again lived up to their reputation of coming a cropper by going down to the Black Caps at Mirpur on Friday.
