Bollywood's controversial films

Bloody Paki
Controversies and Bollywood are two sides of the same coin one just can't go on without the other. While some works for the film's benefit and some don't.

Mani Ratnam has named his upcoming film, 'Bloody Paki' which would feature Vivek Oberoi and Genelia D'souza in the main lead. Obviously it's unclear as to why Mani Ratnam selected this title for the film but then again who are we to question creativity. Let's just hope that the film does justice to the name and there are no bans and posters burned over it.

Black Friday
The film claimed to recreate the scenes behind the 1993 bomb blasts in Bombay that shook the city. With a lot of edits the film hit the theaters three years after it was made. The film received rave reviews and was true to its promises.

Fire
The film was a story about love between two women. A certain political group was offended that homosexuality was shown in a Hindu family. Of course posters were burned and there were attacks. But thanks to that first step now we are not so oblivious to homosexuality.

Ek Chhotisi Love Story
The film is the story of a 15 year old boy who fancies his next building neighbour and watches her closely. The director used a body double for certain portions of the movie with Manisha Koirala's approval. But later the actress denied giving any such approval and approached Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackery to intervene. 

Aandhi
This film was rumoured to be loosely based on Indira Gandhi and her life. 'Aandhi' faced a lot of trouble with the ruling party in order to release the film.

Fanaa
Although the film has no controversial subject but 'Fanaa' was banned because Aamir Khan was seen protesting against raising the heights of the Narmada dam in Gujarat. The film was banned in the state for quite some time. 

Water
Deepa Mehta's 'Water' dealt with the plight of Indian widows in the 1930s and was originally supposed to be shot in Uttar Pradesh. But angry Hindu mobs protested and demolished the sets and equipment and even threatened Mehta because the film was apparently claimed 'anti-Hindu'.

Sins
The film is about a catholic priest who falls in love with a young woman. The film faced a lot of wrath and people protested as some felt it was a negative portrayal of Catholicism. 

My Name Is Khan
The film was based on a very serious issue. However, the film ran into controversy, the posters were burned and it was banned in theaters across the country. Shahrukh Khan criticised the fact that no Pakistani cricketers had been picked for the Indian Premier League, which sparked Shiv Sena, the rest like you already know is history.
