Eco-cool Neeru Kumar opens WIFW in style
New Delhi: Designer Neeru Kumar opened the Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week here on Wednesday, her first participation in the event in 30 years, with a classy collection that displays her expertise in Indian fabric traditions with cutting-edge silhouettes.
Earthy, muted colours ruled the collection that showcased sarees with an interesting drape.
The collection features extensive layering - from brazen asymmetrical cuts to cross stitches that are the designer's signature style - with no surface ornamentation.
Eye-catching satin blouses and structured jackets fought for attention along with shrugs with a twist that make a comeback on the ramp as do geometric prints.
What's haute: Blouses, skirts with slits, longer hemlines and garments made from traditional hand-woven silks, cotton and linen in colours like red, beiges, blue and earthy hues.
What's not: the colours fail to make much impact.
"I thought this is the right time to showcase at this platform. Now the international market has recognised our potential, and hence I am here," Kumar said after the show.
Kumar, an eco-friendly designer, transformed simple fabrics into saris, maxi-dresses, tunics, skirts, jodhpuri trousers and shirts. The designer kept her models' looks simple.
