Punjab polls: Sidhu fires verbal shots at Cong, calls Manmohan Singh 'pappu' PM
Chandigarh: The election fever is heating up in Punjab with BJP MP Navjot Singh Sidhu leading the campaign in his usual flamboyant style, hitting out at what he calls a corrupt Congress government at the centre. Adding star power to his campaign was Bollywood actor Vinod Khanna.
"Sonia Gandhi and the Congress are more 'badnaam' than Munni and Sheila," Sidhu said referring to the song 'Munni badnaam hui'.
His target is the Congress in the state, with a special focus on Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
"This Prime Minister is a 'pappu' (puppet) Prime Minister," Sidhu said.
Unlike Sidhu, Vinod Khanna can turn to his own dialogues from his past films to take on the Congress.
Vinod Khanna was MP from Gurdaspur thrice, but lost to the Congress candidate in the last elections. Replaying dialogues from his movie 'Mera Gaon Mera Desh', Khanna has been seeking votes for the BJP in Pathankot. "We will not cow down. The enemy must be defeated," Khanna said.
With the poll fever building up in Punjab, the war of words is only going to get more feverish in the state.
